How hard do the 50 cals kick these days? I know they are gone kick hard but how hard is hard 12 guage or 700 NE? I know with the advances in muzzle brake technology they have taken away alot of the "felt" kick. Anyone shot the serbu or saftyharborfirearms 50 cal?![]()

My 32.5 pound ALS 50 BMG shooting 750 gr Amax over 224 gr of H50BMG recoils less than a 7 lb 270 WIN with 130 grain bullets at 3000 fps. As others have said, the recoil is more of a push than a slap. I can shoot 100 rounds in a couple days and never have a bruise.

From a bench my Ferret 50 weighing in at about 32 lbs (added lead weights) and w/36" barrel is to me like a12Ga shotgun. But as others have said, there is more push than say a 30-06. I say about 3" recoil. But also to qualify, I have the old A2 stock meat tenderizer butt plate. So, I take an old bath towel folded twice and put this over my shoulder. No problem shooting it say 30 times over a couple of hours.

Definitely depends on the rifle. The better the brake, the worst the blast, but less felt recoil, and of course, the heavier the better.
My first .50 had a 36" bull barrel, weighed 42 lbs, and had a tremendous multi-port, tank-style brake. I'd only get a mild headache after some time due to the pressure of the re-directed muzzle blast to the sinuses. The last gun weighed 25lbs and had a decent brake. It was like shooting a 3-1/2" Magnum shotgun off the bench. The former I could (and had) shot all day. The latter, not so much. One was like a moderate push, the other a mild punch. |

Our State Arms Rebel has about 2/3rds the recoil of a .308 Win. The real price you pay is in muzzle blast from the brake. BOTH plugs and muffs are mandatory for everyone present. Felt, or perceived, recoil is honestly not an issue. We have had several 10 y/o children shoot our rifle and all came away with a big smile. We even had a lady who had had shoulder surgery a few months prior shoot it. I was very leary of this, but she insisted and her and her husband both agreed to accept liability for any problems. No problem at all––and she asked to do it again. |
| My AR-50 is rather mild, but as others have said, there is a lot of muzzle blast. I would say the recoil is on par with a light 12 gauge load. Definitely more of a push than a slap. The 50 may push back a little further than other rifles, but with that effective muzzle brake the recoil is more mild that the quick kick from other high powered rifles. The trade off is lots of noise. VERY loud. |

My Cobb is pretty mild. Allot less than my Saiga 12. I agree with others, the two things that I notice most are the sound levels and the blast thats redirected towards you by the brake. 1st time I pulled the trigger, it felt like I got lightly popped in the nose. Once I forgot to put my muffs on over my ear plugs and experience some significant ringing.

| My Windrunner SS doesn't kick, but it will come back a few inches no matter what. The blast isn't that bad for the operator (single level hearing protection is fine), but you don't want to be next to it when it goes off. I've blown a few things off the adjacent benches from the blast. Bystanders have commented on the shock wave 'pushing' them. |
| Big +1 on not standing or leaving anything to the sides of the gun. I think the muzzle blast from where the brake directs the gas is way worse than the felt recoil. Last trip to the range, a guy shooting a few tables over had his things spread out and had a giant big gulp that was completely full on the end near me. I warned him that I was going to shoot and that he might want to move it. He, of course, gave me a look and said it would be OK. Boom! And the soda was all over him and his guns. Needless to say, he wasn't too happy. |

1st time I pulled the trigger, it felt like I got lightly popped in the nose. You too! And I thought that I was just sensitive. It was like someone took a sheet of copy paper folded in half. And smacked me on the tip of my nose. Loved the story about the soda and it blowing off of the bench. That is some blast from your brake. LOL Max |
There is quite a felt concussion from the overall blast. IE you may have a headache after 30+ rounds on my 22" Ultramag. Me I just take some Motrin first as it helps with the tingles. I suppose asprine may be better as its a blood thinner but havent tried it as of yet. I also am shooting in rapid succession but thats me. Slow time consuming grouping exercises have yet to be bothersome to me what so ever. Its always the trigger happy days.
As far as kick goes. Honestly my Hipoint 9mm Carbine is more brutal that my 50 is. That little thing bites my cheak every time I shoot it. The 50 is probably the most confortable gun I have to shoot. Its just a soft steady push every time. Of corse if I took my decellerator pad off my ACE stock then it would probably hurt like hell with the bare alum stock pressed into my shoulder. But I know better. 50 shooters take precautions when we shoot and build up our rifles. There is a reason for this. When you cross that road you will understand. |
