Just bought a Lee reloading kit for the 50.  I have loaded alot of pistol and rifle rounds in the past, however, pretty nervous about reloading for the 50.  Any advice?  Any thing to change from normal rifle rounds?  Only plan on reloading rounds to take to the local range for fun, no plans for long range shoots or extreme accuracy events.

Thanks again.

It's just like the small stuff but on a bigger scale.

Follow all of the normal procedures for reloading and you'll be fine.

Only two things I can think of that are different for a 50 BMG compared to loading everything else.

1.  There's virtually no reloading data out there since 50 BMG isn't SAAMI-standardized.  Start with 215 grains of H50BMG, IMR-5010, H5010, US869, or WW860 and work up, using, of course, bullets from 600 to 800 grains (except for spotter tracers...these are a separate deal and max out around 170 gr).  When your bolt gets tight on extraction, backoff two grains and consider that your max load.  If I were only going to stock one powder, i'd go with H50BMG.  It's temperature stable, readily available, and shoots well for 750 gr and lighter bullets.

2.  50 BMG is a big case.  It grows more than anything else i've ever shot.  Most folks, myself included, trim cases every firing.  That's the biggest pain I know of with 50 BMG compared to any other reloading.  I use a K&M Case trimmer, about $70.  Trims, chamfers, & Deburs in one pass.

Just bought a Lee Press, trimmer, brass, bullets, and powder.  Anyone know where to get 100 or so primers?  Any other advice would be appreciated.

Thanks again.

Hard to buy 100 primers unless a local shop has them in stock.  Typically the minimum unit of sale is 500 from an online distributor.  www.powdervalleyinc.com had them last time I checked.  I'd suggest ordering some powder along with your order or pickup 1000-1500 primers to spread out your hazmat.

www.wideners.com also usually has them.
