| Just paid the deposit for the 80% receiver. My first .50! Not a lot of info on them, but what I do hear is nothing but good. Anybody here have any experience with them? |

Mine is sitting at my dealer waiting for me to pick it up next week when i get back into town. I put the deposit down for the receiver last april then paid in full last july, it came in 2 weeks ago, so i waited 24 weeks from the time i paid in full. it took about 2 months longer than their original quote of 4 months. They threw in some stuff to make it good though. not sure if you have run across this stuff. but there are more edm guys on the snipers hide forum than on here. here is a link to the two biggest threads over there:

I think these couple instances were quite isolated and didnt keep me from buying one, since from what i read about 99.5% of buyers were happy or even impressed with the rifles. Keep your eye on the hide forums, there is some good info over there and q good number of them have EDM's. CJG |

| I've been fairly happy with my SS model, except for major copper fouling by the tenth round. Mine is an early gun, so the barrel may not be representative of current production. One thing to keep in mind is that you can put a Jewell trigger on it. A little metal had to be removed from the trigger guard to get the safety to move freely (on the bottom safety model). A good gun for the money, IMHO. I won't be parting with it voluntarily, although I may get a caliber conversion for it later. |

Ya mine is pretty solid too. The rods are like 3/8 or so solid round stock. those loaded in compression, they are strong enough. Kinda curious, those of you that have these, did you follow break in procedure? CJG I'm in the process. I think it will take me close to a year though

| Hey twitchy i have a question for you. is your chamber pretty tight? I'm using the HSM AMAX match loads and, with those, the shell goes in but the last 1/8inch or so it doesn't slide freely. After i fired the first round, i unlocked the bolt and it was kinda stuck, i had to hit it with my palm a few times and then the bolt came back. I then fired 2 more rounds and these came out easier but still a little tight. Later i had the barrel off and was inserting the fired brass into the chamber to check it out and i notices that as i rotated the brass through one revolution, there was one place where the fired brass would just ever no nicely slide all the way in, but everywhere else the brass gets super tight/stuck with about an 1/8 left to insert. Have you experienced anything like this? So far i have only shot the 3 rounds and then decided to take it home and clean it. |

It sounds exactly like mine actually. About an 1/8" or so. I'll have to check the rotation of brass. Do you think it could be the brass/ammo or the throat? BTW-I used Barret M33 so far. I have AMAX's for down the road. And at the rate of break in, I get about 1 round per range trip. I'm too lazy to put a round out and go through the half hour process. I just put 1 out and move on to the other noise makers. |

Ya, if you could check that for me on yours that would be cool. I hope its something with the brass because that would get reformed during neck resizing, because that has been my plan; to fire form then only neck resize. Of course i don't have any reloading equipment for it yet so im not sure. Just insert it and rotate the brass and see if it fits all the way in during certain orientations and then not in others and let me know.
Also, did yours come with the free cleaning guides? Mine came with the short guide for cleaning when the barrell is off but not the long one for cleaning with the barrel installed. CJG |

The serious guys that use neck sizing file a notch in the case rim of their brass. They fire it with the notch at 12 o'clock every time and size it with the notch at the same point on their die every time.
I personally don't believe in neck sizing...I just partial FL size, essentially achieving the same result while bumping the shoulder back enough to chamber with minimal effort. Of course i'm sure you COULD get someone to make you a bump die in 50 BMG, just like the benchresters use. -David Edgewood, NM |

I belong to FCSA and at any given match there is usually one or two EDM 50 caliber rifles. They do quite well at the matches as do many rifles as long as you feed them high quality ammo and use a bit of talent. The best thing about the Windrunner is that it is very compact when taken down. This is also the reason I will never own one, I know a couple folks that after assembling the rifle somehow forgot to lock the colapsible stock securely. What they then had was a 50BMG rifle with basically no buttstock and recoil was arrested by their cheek. Not fatal, but not a chance I'm not willing to take.
I have 1,480 rounds through my ALS50 with nothing but good times and smiles. |

I think ya'll are experiencing bullet runout, brass runout, or a combination of both.
Sounds like those EDMS have tight, precision chambers, as they should for how much they cost. The brass is slightly off of being perfectly symmetrical (zero runout). Or the bullet is out of alignment with the brass. One or both has some runout. You can really only control for this once you get to reloading. Sounds more like brass runout to me though because a short ogive bullet like ball shouldn't be contacting the lands of the rifling when seated around 5.45. If the bullet isn't contacting the lands, it won't drag as you turn the round in the chamber. Probably brass out of whack a little. It should be fine after the first firing. -David Edgewood, NM |

I called and spoke with Bill and he said, that the tight fit is normal, mainly due to the match chamber, he said most rounds will chamber tighter than they would in other rifles. I am using the HSM stuff and Bill said thats what he uses to test fire the rifles at his facility.
Twitchy: from what you describe, that sounds about what my chamber feels like also. Only one more question for you. After you fire the round, and you unlock the bolt handle, how difficult is it to extract the spent casing? My first round was pretty hard to get out, but the following 2 rounds weren't as bad. CJG |
