Hiya Folks,
I'm in the research phase right now regarding the BMG platform.   I've seen some references to wait times between shots.   Is there a general rule by barrel composition/length or is there just a standard "wait 2 minutes" between shots?   I'm asking as if there is truly a few minute wait between shots, I don't really see the point of getting a mag fed upper.  I would assume there are other things built into the semi's that allow them to fire shots quicker?   Silly question I know but I'm definitely a noob with this platform.
Thanks much,
cc

Never heard of a "wait 2 min" between shots. I shoot when the cross hair is on the target. 10 seconds or 2 minutes doesn't matter.

Ok.  Here's what prompted me to start looking into it:   From the State Arms website FAQ:

What barrel weight do I need?
Hunting - a light weight barrel is sufficient. Easier to carry, but should wait about 2 minutes between shots.
Target - A bull barrel is best for bench shooting and / or when you must be able to fire 5 shots within 2 minutes

According to them anyway, it would appear they recommend a wait time between shots.   I saw a few other references on various boards out there but thought I'd ask as it all seems a bit odd to me.
that one would have to wait.
Cheers,

That's old discussion on Larrry's site.  All the 50 BMG barrels Larry offers are plenty heavy to shoot as fast as you can  with a single shot 50.  Don't worry about it.  He wrote that a long time ago, and may have copied and pasted it from somewhere.  I had a State Arms for a couple years before I got my ALS and it actually shot better when it was a little warm.  For it's length, a 50 BMG barrel is plenty stiff enough not to have much shift in harmonic flex when it gets warm.  The only barrles Larry offers with a taper are 30" which will be plenty stiff to shoot accurately, fast or slow.

When I shoot matches, I shoot AS FAST AS I CAN so the wind doesn't change.  Still gives me plenty of accuracy.

The only thing regarding time between shots I will say is when shooting long range, DON'T leave a round in the chamber more than 10-15 seconds if your BARREL IS HOT because you'll get vertical stringing, as much as one MOA, with warm powder compared to cold powder.  The effect is not due to barrel flex, it's due to the powder warming up and shooting faster.

Alternatively, you can keep all your ammo good and warm (under the truck heater) and not worry about it which is what most of us do.

With my M82A1:

Load mag, chamber round. BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

Load mag, chamber round. Repeat as necessary.

Thanks Folks.  I'm actually looking at a few Mfg's but happened on that statement on State's website so it had me wondering.
I suspect that the higher tier makers are all using barrels where wait time isn't necessary (ie. Ferret, State Arms, etc...)
