Was shooting API ammo out of my 82A1 and had round 9 bullet blow up upon exiting the muzzle.
No damage to the brake. I didn't know what happened until a friend mentioned he saw a flash. We found a large piece of jacket 75 yards down range. In the video watch the puff on the 9th shot. JtP http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9U_ze53xJTg |

Was it the blue tipped Incendiary stuff?
It's notorious for doing this, the main reason is probably do to the stuff being demilled, resized and then reloaded. With the demilling and resizing it is possible for there to be gaps in the jacket that allow the hot gases to get into the incediary mix and detonate. Never heard of any going off in the barrel, most detonate just outside of the barrel. |

Tagged to watch the video after my shift
Have their ever been instances of this stuff exploding in the barrell? The only .50 BMG I've ever seen self destruct was on a live fire we where doing at work one day, I was on the M240B and the M2 next to me hadn't been properly headspaced and timed, they had a round fire out of battery and it blew the reciever all to hell, the chunk of the reciever barely missed me by a few feet. I didn't even know it had happened until my AG told me afterwards when they called the range cold. |
