Hey guys, Is it worth messing with once fired military brass? Unknown source, Assuming it was fired out of a machine gun.

As far as new brass goes, What is the average life of new brass fired in a bolt gun, What are good brands of brass, So far I have only found Magtech, Winchester, And Igman.

Thanks for your input

Average life of new brass fired in a bolt gun...15 firings.  That's figuring 10 if you don't anneal and FL size versus 20 if you neck size and anneal every 3 firings or so.

David, to make a fair judgment, how many firings could someone expect from once fired M2 brass. Provided one was to anneal every 3 firings?

I've personally never used M2 brass.  FCSA member's forum reports have stated case head seperations after 3-4 firings on some lots.  Really varies depending upon how the headspace was set on the M2 that fired it.

Brass fired from an M2 is just another variable you'd rather not have.  www.wideners.com has new, never fired, never loaded Igman brass for sale in quantity so I wouldn't think of buying once fired brass for a bolt gun.

Some years of brass are better then others also, alot of the 80's LC brass is questionable. Early Israeli stuff with the Hebrew head stamp is garbage from what I've seen. If it's been run through an M2, be sure there's a return policy before you buy it.

Another thing to consider is how hot your loads are, hotter loads will shorten the life of your brass along with other things posted.
