I found a little of this in a friend's stash.  I seem to remember that it is NOT safe to fire through the Barrett.  Is that correct?

The problem with shooting SLAP rounds is getting them to chamber in your rifle. M2's don't have the problem that regular bolt actions do, that and some early M82's were built with a SLAP chamber. Those M82's also had the muzzle brakes opened up to allow SLAP rounds to be fired without removing the brake.

If you can get them to chamber, remove the muzzle brake before firing. If the sabot opens and hits the brake, you or a bystander could be hit with it. Or the force could break off a piece of the brake and send it in a direction that could hurt someone.

Be safe.

Can't remember the twist (1:22?) required. I believe Ops Inc will make or does, a brake that will allow you to shoot sabots.

If you want to attempt to shoot without the brake...go for it...but I would have to see it done before I try it.  Ouch!

I don't think I'm going to try shooting without the brake!  Oh well...maybe someone will trade me for some greentip.

SLAP isn't the same as regular ammo, the pressures are different and you can shoot them w/o the brake installed.

The speed sure makes it tempting. Good hunting round

I called Barrett about firing some SLAP I have through my 82A1.  They said there was no problem with the muzzle brake, this is the way they are shot in the military.  There is NO NEED TO REMOVE THE MUZZLE BRAKE for real SLAP rounds. As stated, the problem is with the chamber and overpressure.  My Barrett was early, but the barrel was not cut for the SLAP round.  I could get one of these barrels, which they made for the military.  There were some military pieces that went on the market some time back and they had the SLAP barrels.   I have a brand new 82A1M/M107 coming in but I don't know if the chamber is cut for SLAP or not.  It's frustrating because these SLAP and SLAP-T rounds are freaking expensive and I end up shooting them in other people's guns.

Your new rifle will not be cut for the SLAP rounds.

What about mine?  I understand the CQ barrels are different.

I'm almost sure the CQ's have a standard chamber but the bore is chrome lined along with the chamber.
