| Which primers are most commonly used for 50. reloading. Specifically plinking ammo, not match stuff. Ill be using 5010 powder behind 700 grain AP rounds. CCI seems to be the only company making "dedicated" 50bmg primers but they are darn expensive. |

These are the ones I've used... CCI #35 'blue box' (was discontinued briefly due to QC issues... new version out now) CCI #35 'arsenal' (used by most reloaders, lest expensive of all) IMI (hard to find, but currently sold in primed brass by Hi-Tech Ammo, good primer) Hirtenberger (mostly gone now.. no longer manufactured) Winchester (in primed brass only 'CAL-50') RWS (REALLY hard to find.. mostly favored by benchrest shooters, expensive) PMC (Russian made 'Murom' primers.. no longer imported. Least expensive ever!) |

All the .50bmg reloading press/kits come with a primer seating stem of some sort. For benchrest shooting, the most popular device is probably the M2Precision primer seater. M2Precision If you're going that far, you should be sorting your brass and primers by mfg/lot/weight as well, and are likely going to have to turn the necks. Look for K&P brass prep tools for most of those items. |
| If CCI suddenly stops #35 primer sales, we are all done with 50 BMG reloading for a while until someone imports a BOAT LOAD from out of the country. That is so very expensive, you wouldn't believe it. Better stock up on #35 CCI primers. Winchester is not going to sell 50 BMG primers to the public. |
That reminds me, I went to Sportsman's Warehouse this weekend for some different things and found a box of CCI 50's for $89.99! The other boxes were up to $127/box. I snatched them up and the checkout gal rang them up at $147 with tax. I pointed out the $89.99 price on the sticker and she remarked it at that price, woohoo! |
What's up with this? I'm trying to remember where, but I thought I remember seeing Winchester .50 brass somewhere (it was loaded ammo) but have never seen the brass for sale. Is this a similar situation? Gundraw |
