Finally got to shoot my M99 on sunday.  I was shooting Talon FMJ at 100 yds from prone.  My best group was right at 3" with 3 of the 5 shots touching each other in a vertical line.  I was curious if I should be getting better groups than that?  My first 5 was about 6".  It is a bit different shooting a 50 over a .30 caliber weapon allthough the recoil was about the same.  Takes a little bit to get use to the blast from the muzzle brake.  Anybody have results with Talon they would like to share?

Talon FMJ is usually a little better than that. You have to remember the source of the ammo is military stuff that the .gov decided for some reason it was no longer suitable for military use. Great plinking ammo but don't expect much in the accuracy department.

What Jeep said. Talon isnt match grade at all but I've had 2" 5 shot groups at best with it at 100yds.

I never brag about groups, I am a better than average shot.  I always qualified expert in the Army.

Now to the Talon.  I have shot 1 inch to same hole groups with the talon and my Barrett  M-99.  I was extremely impressed, to say the least.  I usually just plink stuff out to 350 and have not shot groups at that range but I will this spring.

The trigger in my Barrett could use a little refining beyond my skill level though.  Some barrels shoot better than others, maybe I got lucky or you are a crappy shot.  Just kidding man, AFCOM style.

Let someone else that is a good shot group it.  If it is the same it is the ammo or the gun.  Heck sandbag it and group it.

My husband bought three boxes of Talon ammo, with the same date on the box, at the same time.  The first two boxes (of 150 round each) were relatively accurate.  As a brand new shooter (of any rifle) I was shooting groups between 23" and 27 1/2" with it at 1,000 yards.

With the last box, I think we got a bunch of bad ammo.  Two weeks ago, we were shooting at 1,000 yards - and would shoot 2' high on the right, 2' low on the left, maybe one close to the middle, or close to that last shot.  It was very unpredictable.  Interestingly enough, the brass on the last box of ammo wasn't as bright as the other boxes.  I'm not sure if that means anything, but it was the only visual difference we could discern.
