I am considering reloading for my 50.
Problem is I don't shoot it a whole lot, but the price of the ammo is huge.
Does any body have any input on the break even point (# of rounds fired) for buying ammo vs buying all the dies and a new press to reload?

What is an estimated cost per round if you are reloading?

Thanks much for the help.

This is hearsay, I have not personally verified this data:

Average price per round reloaded is about 2.75.  This does not take into account the reloading equpiment NOR the brass.  It is assuming that you have both.  The more expensive your equipment, the longer it will take to get your return on investment obviously.

"They" say that if you shoot more than 400 rounds per year, that it would be more advantageous to roll your own.  Not to mention the ability to tune the round to your gun, thereby attaining the highest level of accuracy.

It would be disappointing to have an inaccurate gun after spending so much money...

my setup, using all supplies from wideners, is way less than that.. about 85 cents to 1.13 per round, using unfired brass

+1
Using surplus powder and bullets I'm at less than $1 for bullet, powder and primer. Brass can be reused many times.  I polish and reload the LC brass from Talon ammo.

Sorry, the figure I gave was for MATCH-grade ammo, not plinking ammo.  Obviously, there will be a difference when the components are of a surplus nature...

I can reload with a 750 grn A-MAX on used LC98 brass for about $2.80...

Buying components surplus and not counting the cost of the brass.  I figured it to be roughly $0.65 a shot.  That was with the prices from www.Patsreloading.com

Once I got my .50 I knew I'd need to reload for it and the Lee 50 press kit I ordered also will work for smaller rifle rounds and I needed that as well.  I've got 250rds of Talon coming sometime this year hopefully. But I've found good deals on components fairly easily. The only place around here that has 50bmg wants $3/round for FMJ surplus stuff and $5 a round for AMAX rounds. I've figured I can load surplus stuff for under a $1 a round which makes it worth it, even using AMAX bullets I'd be under the going rate for cheap .50 around here. BTW what is the average case life for military surplus brass using regular load or slightly underpowered load data? Similar to 30-06 and .308 or much lower, 3-4 firings?

My current reloading cost is $.40 per round.  I recently struck a good deal and will be able to drop that cost to $.33 per round.  I am using all surplus components and #35 primers.

DAMN !!!!!!!
Where you get your components, Just Mil Ball Projectiles run .30 cents a bullet
Primer cci #35 $90 for 500 = $ .18 Cents each. I get them as an FFL DEALER.  So after the primer that leaves me $ .15 cents for powder and a projectile. Are you useing surplus golf balls as bullets or what. Let us  all know how you got the grand daddy of all deals. It almost sounds like Bull Shit to me ( I know your not BS'ing us though) . Please post some links and detailed break down of your amazing    $ .33 Cent  round. We all want in on it

Primer.......................................$.18
Powder 5010 pulldown 210gr........$.105
API projo unsized.......................$.06

Total cost is $.345, even less than I had thought That is not counting the deal I just got on API's at $.04 per bullet.

These costs do not include brass.  I count the cost of brass in the first loading then I consider them free.  If I were to include the cost of brass it would be $.545 a round.

The deal I just got on bullets is from a private party so I cannot post a link for that unfortunately.
