I'm interested in getting my first .50 cal upper for an AR reciever(only way I can afford to shoot .50). I really like the design of the ALS, but the 9 month wait is too long(too cold for the long range in the winter). So I'm thinking about the UL50 but am concerned about the stress that the upper puts on the lower through the takedown pins. Does anyone have any experience with these, if so, was this a problem? Anyone have any other ideas for starting out in .50. Thanks 45 |

So far there hasn't been any reported problems with AR lowers with .50 BMG uppers attached to them. If there was there wouldn't be a market for them as people wouldn't want to destroy their lowers. The UL50 is a nice set up, you'll be happy with it if you get one. There's also the Ferret50, UltraMag50 and Watson's Weapons uppers out there if you wanted to look at some others. |
One area to watch is the firing pin. One UL50 owner and two (I'm on of them) UM50 owners have had firing pins that peen out quickly (I'm on my second firing pin and it's already peening). Although they're made by different companies, the designs are quite close. That said, I love my UM50. It's great. Right click, save as |

I have both the UL-50 and UM-50 conversions... My UL-50 is the one that's had the firing pin issue, but a call to LigaMec got me a replacement pin in just two days! I've not seen the same, (or any other serious issues) with my early UM-50 though. Here are some range reports for my conversions: UltraMag 50 UltraLite 50 |
