| Here's the problem with SLAP ammo, it probably won't fit in the chamber on your rifle. Second is trying to find someone that has any real SLAP and lastly is price. If you're just going to keep it as a collectors piece that's fine but seeing that it's probably going to cost you a minimum of $20 EACH. I doubt you'll be shooting a large number of them if you did find them. |
I suspect these light bullets are made for 50 caliber cartridges which have a much smaller powder capacity (like 50-70). Does Barnes publish loading date for these bullets loaded in the 50BMG case? With the lighter bullets comes reduced B.C. and although they will exit the barrel faster the advantage is to the longer, heavier bullets at extended ranges. I wonder what Chase Varnado is seeking with lighter bullets? |
Barnes does not give data for them, but a while back I ran across load data for them on the site "the reload bench" or something like that. If my memory serves me right I think they were running ~4000 FPS. At that speed they may very well hold their own at longer distances. I guess it is like the 155gn Palma vs the 175SMK out of a 308. The 155 will kick the 175's butt every if the velocity is above ~2900fps. Might work - might not. I have no idea what the BC is...... Somebody try it and let us know
