I have heard that it is unwise to shoot military surplus ammo, due to the possibility of excess pressure from aging powder.  Also, I was wondering what kind of accuracy is possible with these cheaper bullets.  I know the components are de-milled from unfired U.S. military surplus ammo. All primers are replaced with non-corrosive boxer-type and the bullets are 650-Gr. Ball.

I don't know anyone that doesn't shoot suplus ammo. Its cheap and easy to find. As far as accuracy, its good plinking stuff and you really shouldn't expect much better than 2moa out of it. There are some who claim to get sub-moa out of surplus but I tend to believe that's more fantasy than fact.

Plenty of surplus out there that is safe enough to shoot. The only ammo out there I've heard of that is unsafe is yellow tip Dominican Republic .50 with no headstamp on it. We had a few thousand rounds on hand at Barrett and had to destroy it.

Guys, I am very excited to say that my Barret M99 is on now on factory order, though estimated waiting time before shipping from Barrett is 4-6 months!  I'm keen to order it brand new and definitely keen to give my hard earned money to Ronnie Barrett's little shop.

In the meanwhile, I want to satisfy my lust for the new toy by buying up some ammo.  Ammoman.com has Talon 50 BMG for (I think he said) $175 for 150 rounds (if you pick them up at his facility in New Jersey).  http://www.ammoman.com/webstore_50BMG.htm

I'll be driving by Jersey next month, so I thought I'd pick up a few hundred rounds, but wanted to ask people's opinion on the Talon ammo.. there is a note on Ammoman's site that says that whatever QC problems that used to exist with this ammo has been solved... so is $175/150rnds a good price and is this good ammo?  thx!
