I have the opportunity to buy a Barret M82 that's about six years old, comes with factory (?) supplied scope and hard case for $6700.00. Shot maybe 50 rds.

Deal or not ???

Check Guns America www.gunsamerica.com and see if there are any listed to get an idea.

You may also want to check boards like sturmgewehr, like this thread of a guy selling an M82:
www.sturmgewehr.com/webBBS/semi4sale.cgi?read=88103.  I've contacted him about some other things he has for sale, so please don't try to buy those since I passed this along!   $6,100 for an M82 is a great deal in my opinion (from someone who has one that he bought from the factory for significantly more than that....).  Good luck.  Out of everything I own, my M82 is still one of my favorite guns.  I don't shoot it a lot - the blast is a lot to take much of, and the noise pisses off the neighbors for some reason?!  I plan on getting a suppressor for it, though, which will allow me to shoot it a lot more.

If it's been cleaned and stored properly then that's a pretty respectable deal.  I bought my Barret M82 brand new for $6,300.00, but by the time I added a scope that could handle the recoil, extra mags, and 500 rounds of APIT and Ball ammunition I got close to $8,000.00.

I've put about 300 rounds through mine since then.  When you put a few APIT's through a 1.5 inch thick piece of steel you'll know the power that the .50 BMG packs.  Once I went shooting with a buddy of mine and we went through over 80 rounds in one session.  Later on we both had headaches and symptoms of low grade concussion.  We were wearing double ear protection like Barret recommends, but still felt the effects.  Since then I never shoot more than 20 or 30 per session.

Ammo is expensive, especially the high quality stuff.  But if you want the ultimate in civilian legal firepower, the M82 is the way to go.

Or you can join the army and get yourself into an artillery unit.  I hear those 105's pack a real punch.
