I know this has been talked over before, but what scope would you, or have you put on an ar-50 ? do you go for the big 24+ power scopes or are you just wasting money on power that you can not use ? thanks |
| It all depends on the distance you plan shooting. The majority of my .50 shooting is under 1000 yds.,so a 10x Swarovski works well for me. If you have greater distances available, a 16x is the practial limit. To me anything larger should be used from a benchrest with plenty of support to keep the weapon steady enough to see the target. A 20x or larger is nice if you do not want to buy a spotting scope ! |
| I've got a 20x on my AR50 and wish I had something bigger. I've been shooting 1200 yards a lot lately and the 20x just doesn't do the job as well as I'd like. If you are sure you are mainly going to be shooting at short range (500 yards and less) a 10x will do fine but if you plan on stretching out a bit go for something upwars of 20x. |

I have a Leupold 6.5-20x40 LRT with M1 turrets and a luminous mil-dot by Premier Reticles on my M99. I'm very happy with it. I don't agree that 20x is required beyond 1,000 yards. I found that I could accurately (enough for me) shoot at 10x out to 1,500. The lower power magnification gave me enough time to get back on target between the shot and the bullet impact. I'll admit that having the option of going up to 20x is nice, but anything beyond that I think is a waste unless you're going out to 2,000 yards or something crazy. |
