Does FNH offer the SCAR 17S CQC SBR on the commercial market from the factory?  Or are the only options to buy a $1K plus bbl, or cut down the  one that comes with the rifle?

I've seen them pop up in stores here.  Price tag was in the $3300 range.

To answer your question, no. FNH does not offer ANY factory SBRs to the public. Maybe one day they will catch on like Colt and Sig, but as of now, no factory SBRs.

Other than the cool factor, what's the purpose of having a SBR scar 17?

No reason not to go down to 14.5 or 13.5.

I didn't know they made a 14.5".

They, FNH, don't. Some have had their barrel cut to that length reducing their weapons length by a whole 1.5 inches making it way easier to maneuver in a CQC situation. (sarcasm)

There is a 14" 16s barrel assembly FNH has made available to the commercial market.

Nothing wrong with a 13" SCAR.  Still getting plenty of energy for several hundred meters.  The difference in handling is most noticeable with a suppressor.
