So after much research and deliberation I have decided to get a 16S in black. My next dilemma is figuring out what optic to run on it. I have an Eotech 552 that I can put on for now.

My plans for this rifle were to be my SHTF all around rifle. With that said I was considering something more like a three gun set up so that it would be effective at close and longer ranges.

I don't many places around me that I could reach out much past three hundred yards but my eyes at not the best and I like a little extra magnification.

I have been looking at the Leupold line of optics because I can get a very nice price on most of their products.

I am also trying to keep the rifle as light as possible because this was one of the aspects that drew me to the platform. I have handled both the 17 and 16 and the rifle just feels all around more comfortable to me compared to my ACR.

Any suggestions on optics to choose from are appreciated.

The EOTech would be a great choice and add a magnifier if you need.

I have the 17s with a Vortex Viper PST 1-4x24 on mine.

For SHTF I would go with a 1~4 or 1~6 scope.

I have a QD eotech, as well as a 3-10 zeiss scope with a Larue QD mount, so that I can have the best of both worlds.  For SHTF, I think the eotech is the way to go, if you can only choose one.  You are only going to use your rifle as a self defense weapon, in probably what would be pistol ranges.  I can hit a fairly small steel plate consistently at 200 yards with just the eotech.  If the target is more than 200 yards away, during SHTF you are probably going to be unassing anyways.

I think I am leaning more towards keeping the Eotech as the primary as I am planning on getting the 10" factory barrel as soon as possible.  I also have an AAC 762-SDN-6â„¢ that I am just waiting for the stamp to come back on. Another reason that I chose this platform was to run suppressed.

I do like the idea of a 1-6 power scope with a QD mount so that I did have options.

Does anyone have any experiences with how well that type of setup would hold zero if dismounted then remounted?

Has anyone posted any range reports with the 10" barrels?  I'm wondering what kind of effective range and accuracy they are achieving with that configuration.

I'm just waiting on few sales to go through then I am going to order the barrel and a Super Scar trigger pack.

I have a 552 that i use with a Eotech G33 magnifier.
I'm glad i picked the G33 up, they work well together and the magnifier comes off pretty quick.

I'm using a 4X ACOG, at closer ranges with both eyes open it works very well as a reflex type optic. The illuminated retiicle with out batteries thing just appeals to me.

I have a Mepro 21 I plan to put on the SCAR that will arrive at the end of the week.

I MIGHT break down and get a 1-4x trijicon scope eventually. But with the mount, that's around $1k. Not sure if I wanna spend that much.

I like the battery free aspect of the Mepro 21 with the triangle reticule. I wanna stay with that (hence the Trijicon scope).

I used EOtechs for years - but hated to have to stop and press buttons. Plus, my eyes have gotten worse, and I can't use them any longer. I actually see TWO center dots when looking downrange with one. Around the house, it looks fine to m. But not when actually trying to shoot a target. I had this come and go for the past few years - now I have this all the time

Is there a link that shows any data for the 10" accuracy?

I like the idea of no batteries as well. Could you let me know how it performs after you get a chance to try it out?

Well, it will be a while before I get the Trijicon 1-4 scope. But, I've had the Mepro since Mag on a Steyr AUG. I sold the AUG last week and ordered the SCAR. I really like the Mepro. I kept it to put on the SCAR.

Here is a mini review of It I did a while back:

I have the 1-4 accupoint in a larue mount on my 13" scar 17 and I think it's perfect on there.
