Because 5.7mm = .224 inches.


FN is a European company. Over there they measure bore diameter from groove to groove as opposed to domestic companies who measure from land to land. Standard groove depth for both is about 0.07mm (+/- a thousandth-mm or two) putting a 5.56mm L-L bore at 5.7mm G-G
