Anybody willing to take a guess on the actual price of mags for the 17s?  Will there ever be enough demand for another mag maker to deliver something more affordable?

Also, what do you guys think about the 16 inch barrel?  What will that do to accuracy and velocity at 400+ yards?

I am saving my pennies....

I know CProducts says they will be offering -H mags:

Cproducts Website News Window:
In April:
- 25 round DPMS style .308/SR25
- 25 round .308 SCAR Heavy
- 20 and 30 round Ruger Mini 30

Dunno if they'll be any good or not, but there's at least somebody other than FN making them. I know there was an RFP going out for SCAR-H mags, dunno who won it.

As far as the 16 inch barrel goes...I'm not convinced you lose all that much velocity from a 16". And to be honest, if the SCAR-H offers accuracy anything like the -L shown here I'll be more than pleased.

Shouldn't be a big deal, assuming it's a good bbl.  There are short bbl'd precision rigs that shoot to 1k pretty well.

the 308 is my first choice for the SCAR, but if the prices are insane - i might consider the 16s instead.

Supposedly a modified FAL mag.

Hell, if it's straight just make one.  The body would be stamped ideally, but you could easily do a mag on a small brake.  Use SR-25 or AR-10 parts for the rest.

Making a straight box mag might be a fun project someday. . . .

The FN web site lists 16" barrels so far.  No 20's or SBR's.
Or did I miss something.
I want a 20"

" Why in the hell didnt they us AR10 mags! "   BECAUSE THEY DONT WORK 100% LIKE THEY DO IN A M14 ! Ar10 mags are m14 mags jerry rigged to work in the ar10 because of the 94 ban . Mark Westrum has stated he had to make due with what was out in the market place in great numbers already to make the AR10 a marketable weapon. Hope this makes sense to you and good luck.

PMAGs fit DPMS/KAC magwells, not AR10 (Armalite).  It would be nice if everyone including armalite would get on the bandwagon and stick with the DPMS/KAC style mags.

Someone is making a 25 rnd polymer or synthetic mag for the 7.62 SCAR.

I saw a pic in SWAT magazine but don't remember who the mfg was.

Hrm, I too was hoping at (eventually) picking up a 17S but hopefully the mag issue will be cleared up by then.

I was hoping for a .308 PMag to use in it as well...

A side-by-side comparison w/ FAL mags is inevitable.  Someone will surely try.  Millling away the "rock-in" extension & drilling a mag-catch hole is a no-brainer, but I suspect the feed lip profile & follower will be sufficiently different that, at best, a modded FAL mag will be functional but unreliable.

That was a 25 round (I think) magazine.  It was a tango Down ARC mag.  I imagine TD will tool up when they start hitting the market in numbers.  So a quality poylmer mag will probably be avaliable.  I know the 5.56 mags are designed for any NATO magwell but I always thought they had the SCAR in mind when they designed it.  Makes sense that they designed a 7.62 version as well.
