I am not sure I told you about this one. If you look hard you can see my Colt on the counter below it. Do I really need another M-16? This one is on the lower end of your range Tony. Quoted:

Most AR15 conversion rifles are going for $16-19k these days.
Surprisingly it doesnt seem to be much difference if its a Colt or Non-colt. Typically you would think Colt would carry a premium but most of the Colt Ar15 are slab side and not very desirable based on their looks. |

Typically you would think Colt would carry a premium but most of the Colt Ar15 are slab side and not very desirable based on their looks. The looks of the slab side don't bother me -- a more significant difference is that the Colt front takedown pin is oversize and not captive. Still, you can have M60joe sleeve it down, but it won't be captive. That said, I prefer a Colt host because it is far more in-spec than any of the non-Colt hosts available pre-1986. In decades of tinkering with RRs, I have only come across one ex-semi Colt with a functional issue -- the autosear pin hole was drilled slightly off by the person who did the Form 1 -- and that was very easily fixed. Compare that to the host of issues I've seen non-Colts need (though in fairness, by now many of those have been corrected). YMMV. |
| for the right price I would buy a sp1/sp2 lower. but id rather buy a non colt and have it fixed. there not a lot of material one that front pin lug and I would think machine gun fire would speed up wear on a already thin section of the lower. I hate that colt screwed up lowers the way they did, but I guess Olympic is the same when they couldn't machine a lower to spec lol. |
