Is there any reason to believe that this m16A2, advertised on Gunbroker as having the original upper, is not the real thing? See http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewBidHistory.aspx?Item=467660049
And here is an archived description of how to identify a real Commando: http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=6&f=23&t=246317 Thanks. |
| The holes on the castle nut for the spanner wrench appear slightly marred and it looks like the receiver endplate is not staked to the castle nut. Even if it is, there is not paint over the staking. These findings suggest it was not a factory carbine lower. Also, the presence of a bayonet lug and apparent lack of a slight flange at the rear of the muzzle where the threads stop make me think the barrel was potentially a cut-down. A factory Commando should not have a bayonet lug. The photos are not very high resolution, so I could be wrong on these points. |
