I was just handed an M16 w/burst kit, that does not burst.
First one I've seen, so I'm a bit confused on what is and isnt supposed to do what. The burst cam doesnt rotate, so its not disconnecting the sear. It only moves as much as the hammer. I took it apart, and the parts seem to be there. The cam will rotate in either direction on the hammer when held in place with the spring. So i guess the question is, what is supposed to index the cam? |

Only from what I can remember looking at the M16 back when I was in the army that had burst. I think the cam is only supposed to rotate one direction. The cluch spring may be broken? Brownells has schematics of the burst kit: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/sid=852/schematicsdetail/ |

The burst cam has a clutch spring that causes it to rotate when the hammer moves back, and allows it to slip when the hammer moves forward but the front hook of the burst disconnector catches one of the teeth on the burst cam.
If yours does not move with the hammer on the backstroke, your clutch spring is broken or missing. If yours moves forward again with the hammer, your burst disconnecter is broken or missing. |

Its as if the hammer is undersized. The cam rotates back a bit, but stops as soon as the disconnector get near the top of a tooth. Maybe the burst disconnector spring is too stiff. |
