looks like a remake of an original.  maybe to replace a broken or lost unit.

maker marks do not match any known examples. font and size are wrong.

If you agree its a fake, pass the word.

Where is it listed on gunbroker? I haven't seen a RLL or LL listed in some time. Maybe that would shed some light on what he thinks he is looking at?

If the serial is VERY early, it might be a legitimate early prototype from when SWD was developing their stamping or cutting dies to produce them.  By very early, we're probably talking number 10 or 20 or so, or lower.

Never seen any RLL's with that type of lettering.   I've seen "standard characters" were are all familiar with  and vibratory penciled serial numbers....

Interesting. No wonder I haven't seen it. Why would it be listed as parts and accessories?

We can all agree that the letters are not what is usually seen, but it may simply be that a worker used the wrong letter stamping die for the link. The link looks to have been made by the same process as other SWD links. I doubt it is fake, I'd think the tooling  needed to accurately fake an RLL would cost more than an RLL. I also believe anyone who would go through the trouble to duplicate the rest of the link's appearance would be able duplicate the more common lettering. I'm calling this one a rare factory variant, "pre-coffee monday morning" link.

Just hard to believe that a piece of paper that a politician signs can make a small piece of steel worth thousands and thousands of dollars

Actually, 1+1=1, because the plus sign would be considered constructive intent and could be used to manufacture an illegal multiplication sign

Pretty much like how an original Armalite AR-15 can be worth $275,000 just because its rare & it was shot off the back of an assassinated president's yacht..
If they want it, they will pay big bucks for it, no matter what the cost

Not really. An Armalite AR15 is an actual weapon. A lightning link is only a piece of steel that would be about $5 or less if there were no anti-gun laws. Something that can be made in a machineshop in a few minutes should not cost $6k+ because the Hughes Amendment was snuck in. Heck, I would be mad just about paying the $200 for the tax stamp for a piece of metal. Thats just my opinion though.
