Are the aluminum-bodied RDIAS w/ a steel trip as desirable as the all-steel models?  I need to know because I'm thinking of buying an RDIAS and keep coming across deals on aluminum bodied ones.  Oh, and I plan to shoot the snot out of it.

I wouldn't worry about either one

Yes, the steel is more desirable, however, if both are properly set up they'll run forever. Just make sure the spring in the RDIAS is as light as possible.

As long as it's shimmed properly, there should be no problems.

Someone has to post the picture of the aluminum body with the pin holes blown out; it's obligatory in the aluminum DIAS threads.

I believe M60Joe once said the only rdias he has seen needing repair were AL. They only got that way was because the pin broke and the owner kept shooting not knowing. AL can be fixed though but steel is always better. Some here will not agree.

In the last 6 years, I've had to weld a couple of aluminum and a couple of steel RDIAS'. Not typical though.  A typical repair is to machine the pivot pin hole larger so it's round again and make a new sear trip.

This one was purchased and looked brand new. Until the JB weld cracked. Customer sent it to me and I dug out all of the JB Weld.

Why not drill it out and press a steel sleeve into the body?
