| Hey guys, if you had an extra $6K laying around, would you consider selling you RLL (that runs great) to buy a RDIAS? Or, would you buy another full auto like an M11/Lage, Uzi, AC556, FNC, etc.? Only thing I find lacking in the Lightning Link is no .22 LR conversion for it. But your thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks. |

I was in that seat a while back. Here's the thing. no .22lr conversion is exactly alike. You may never be able to get that .22lr conversion to run right. I have friends and there are plenty of people on this board who never could get their .22lr upper to work. There are plenty of people who have though.
Maybe you could save a bit more and buy a Shrike I went the Dillon route + a Trident 9 + a SS YHM Phantom + ~ 20,000 rounds... But I still really want that Shrike. |

That's a tough question. And you really need to search your own heart, to figure out what will make you happy. "Cause no matter what anyone sez, what you want is what you should get –– all the "best choices" are someone else's best choices.
I love my '16 –– it's my soulmate and I'll prolly be buried with it –– but I shoot the Uzi way more: It's so damned cheap to shoot compared to the '16. While I have two 9mm uppers for the '16 (an LRM M169 and a DOE 7" upper ) neither is as reliable in 9mm as the Uzi. And the Uzi is the truck of MGs, damned near indestructible. Plus when it comes to .22RF conversions, the Uzi is head-and-shoulders above any '16 for reliability. If I was in your shoes, I'd buy an Uzi. Because I'd end up shooting it way more that the RLL/host. But that's me, not you. What you need to do is somehow figure out what best meets your needs and satisfies your heart. And then buy that. Because there is no universal right-or-wrong. There is only what is best for you. |
| I have an RLL and it runs great, except for the .22 issue. I picked up an M11/Lage upper and it is a really great subgun. Richard Lage is working on a .22lr conversion kit and I put myself on the waiting list for one of those to fill that .22 auto need. The M11 has a lot of different uppers available to make it into a few different roles and its the cheapest auto out there. I would pass on the FNC unless you just want a collectible/investment. I had one for a few years and it does shoot very well. The problem is parts, basically there aren't any and if it breaks, you are pretty much screwed. Good luck with your decision. |

FNC, etc.? Only thing I find lacking in the Lightning Link is no .22 LR conversion for it. Simply adding to those who have posted above: I have all of the above. LL's were my 2nd purchase after my M10. By far the most versatile guns are my DIAS hosts, and I shoot those the most, especially with my .22 kit, these days. The FNC is a fine gun, and a wonderful shooter, but I barely ever take it out of the safe. It can't do anything the DIAS guns can't do, and the DIAS guns are SO MUCH more versatile. Probably the only thing I like about the FNC that the DIAS or LL guns can't do is the auto-resetting 3rd burst. I'm considering selling the FNC to help finance another DIAS or perhaps an M16A1 purchase, since I'm 100% more likely to shoot those guns than to shoot the FNC much. Think about it, and get what you WANT. And unless you've got the cash to buy purely for investment, make sure you're getting something you're going to shoot the hell out of and enjoy. |
| I'm really happy with my RLL. I have a number of guns set up for select fire (safe/semi/full) and they all function to my satisfaction. I ended up buying an AC556 to meet my 22LR needs. It runs like a swiss clock. I never even shot the gun with the 223 bolt. Its way too much fun in 22LR. |
Thanks everyone for taking the time to post and share your thoughts. I took all of them to heart. I was really struggling with this decision. The RDIAS was very tempting as it came with a 6920 host for $13K. But as some of you said, that's a lot of moola to get .22 capability. And with the KNS Protector the RLL should be as or more durable then a RDIAS. Only time will tell. So, I've decided to keep the RLL. This morning I won a GB auction for a SWD M-11 for $2.8K and got on the waiting list for a Lage Slowfire Upper. l should have $$ left over for a suppressor or two.
