| You know when u shake a buffer it rattels? Does the buffer weights need that extra space to move in order to function properly? |
|
The buffer provides both a total weight function and a secondary-inertia function. The secondary-inertia function is made possible by the ability of the buffer weights to act independently of the main mass of the buffer's weight. After the buffer, bolt and bolt carrier slam home, there can be a tendency for the carrier to "bounce" off of the barrel extension, which can cause misfires in full auto. The buffer's internal weights "hit home" a fraction of a second after the buffer body stops its forward travel, and this function cancels out the tendency for the carrier to bounce.
