| Ive only had my M16 for a month or so. I plan to replace all the springs and install the KNS pins as it is all original. Well... I was shooting today and it quit extracting. Sure enough the extractor spring had broken. Got it fixed in quick order and running great again. What is the small rubber piece that fits inside the spring and is it critical? I put it back in but it looked well worn. Also....I read in a Colt manual I have to never switch a carrier group from one gun to another. Is this true? I had switched it already into a 11.5" upper and put 100rds. thru it. |

The rubber is just to increase spring tension. I just use Wolf brand Xtra Power extractor springs, Some people put a #60 Oring there to increase extractor tension. While swapping bolts works fine, going back and forth back and forth back and forth will increase the wear of the parts. Buy a separate bolt/carrier for each upper. |
