I was wondering if a .22lr will stabilize out of a 5inch 1/9 barrel?? I dont want to ruin my supressor.. I realize different ammo will do different things, so what grain should I use?? Thanks |

hello. yes it will stablise them just fine. very easy to remember what bullet to use. the faster the rifling twist ( lower the number ) the heavier bullet you can use. on a 22 it isnt going to make that much differance because the 22 only goes about 1000 to 1200 feet per second. while some will say that you cant shoot such and such grain with such and such rifling, because of unstability i have yet to see any difference. i regularly shoot all weights of .223 ammo out of my m-16 with a 7 inch barrel with a suppressor attached and have yet to get a baffle strike. on the flip side, you might suffer some accuracy differences with rifling twists. the rifling controversy started because the government found that with heavier bullets in original twists of 1 in 12 were not stablizing the bullets effectively enough to cause complete yawing ( 180 degree turns ) and massive tissue disruption. for the average shooter rifling isnt a big deal. kirk |

Skeeter- Remember that .22 lr is routinely shot out of pistols with shorter barrels than that and it works just fine. The problem is with .223 ammo, which is MUCH more powerful and designed for a 20" barrel. If you have worries, just shoot a few groups on paper at short range (without the can) and check out the holes. If they're nice and round, you're all set. If the bullets are going through sideways, you have a problem. |
