Saw that today on Fox News.... I wanted to cry as I'm 90% sure that weapon will be cut up instead of going to a museum.

Someone (individual or FFL) who knows about guns really needs to be at EVERY one of these places.

Not that it would help you that much though.  The people who are getting rid of these things want them out of the house and out of their care most times.  Someone who would have a STG44 probably is fairly elderly and doesn't care about making much money, though there would probably be more interest if they knew what it was worth.  For a buyer, it does you no good though...you can't take immediate possession of it.  The only thing you could do is attempt to save it from the pile by telling them its worth a fortune and maybe asking to make an offer on it (assuming its registered).

There usually is. Not that much could be done for the stg. Couldn't transfer legally if a registered weapon that day, and most that have something like that and don't know what it is wouldn't want to wait for paper work.

1 - Tell them you will write them a check for x thousand on the spot if they are okay with, do an eform right there on your laptop/phone.
2 - You pay for and install a small safe in their house or rent a safe deposit box in the safe, take all parts except receiver with you that day.  leave the key with them.
3 - When paperwork comes through in 3 months, you show up, they hand you the key, you unlock safe, take gun, remove safe or cancel deposit box.

That is assuming that they had any paperwork and if they did, that it is in their name and not some other dead relative. If it is unregistered or not registered to them then your "eform" will do nothing but bring ATFE down on the owner to confiscate the weapon leaving you to try and get your "x thousand" dollars back.

If it were registered to them and you are not an FFL/SOT, you couldn't file an eform 4 anyway.
