I have an opportunity to purchase an UZI Model B (unk Mfg.) with a stock and 9mm/.45 caliber barrels for $750 from an estate sale. It is my understanding that this was once a pistol and turned into an SBR. The seller is advertising it as a pistol, but once an SBR it can not revert to a pistol unless done thru the BATFE - correct?
Also, how do i determine, if at all, whether or not this was an SBR if no paperwork is available or engraving took place? I wouldnt mind paying $200 for an in state transfer to my Trust if this is a good deal. Thanks in advance for your learned suggestions and comments. |

You can call the ATF and check on the serial number 304-616-4500, I am not sure how much information they will give you though. Once the stock (or barrel) is removed it is no longer under the purview of the NFA. You could also check for engravings from an individual for F1 submission. If you do have a short barrel and a stock in your possession, that is on you, and you may run afoul of the ATF.
http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/national-firearms-act-short-barreled-rifles-shotguns.html Q: Is it necessary to send notification to ATF and receive acknowledgement that the SBR or SBS has been removed from the purview of the NFA before it may be sold as a GCA firearm? There is no requirement for the possessor of a registered NFA firearm to notify ATF that the firearm has been removed from the purview of the NFA. However, ATF recommends the possessor notify the NFA Branch of such changes in writing so that the possessor is not mistakenly identified as the owner if the firearm is later used in a crime. If, at the time of transfer, the firearm does not meet the definition of a SBR, it should be transferred without filing the NFA transfer application and without payment of the transfer tax. |
