I am currently looking for a new short barreled shotgun and am debating between a few different ones.  I kind of like the Serbu Super Shorty, but they are way overprices for what you get in my opinion.

I have been doing some research and found a AOW that I really like the looks of.  It is a standard 870 with a 12.5" barrel and broom handle grip.  See pic below.

I called and spoke to my local class 3 dealer and he has a AOW 870 Police Magnum with a 14.5" barrel that is registered as a AOW.  It has a pistol grip and standard plastic hand guard.  Price is $550 vs almost $800 for a SSS.

My question is are you able to add a stock to a AOW like the shotgun below?  My dealer said that he believes so, but has been told by other people that it is not possible.

If I were to buy the AOW, I may want to add a stock it later on down the road and don't want to do the paperwork again for a SBS.

Nope, no buttstock allowed on an AOW shotgun.

Get a SBS you can do anything you want to it. AOW can't have a buttstock. Just pick up a Rem 870 at the local gun shop and send in a Form 1 to SBS it, when approved get the gun engraved with your info and chop the barrel.

Thanks for the help guys.  I see that Summit Gunbroker has some Remington 870 Police Magnum SBS's for sale.  I might pick one of those up.

So a SBS can be switched between stock and a pistol grip but an AOW'ed shotgun can't?

Is that correct?

The answer to you question is YES, that is correct, but just to be picky there is no such thing as a "AOW'ed shotgun." {sic}  If a gun was ever a shotgun then it can never be an AOW.

Keep in mind, that flexibility comes at the price of 195 dollars.
