I have a trade offer for a SA M1A converted to M14.

Did SA do this conversion?

What is it worth?

Where can I find more info on it?

Thanks

Springfield made factory full auto M1A's. So it woudn't be considered a M14. They came in factory springfield boxes marked M1A select fire. I've seen a couple, they are nice looking weapons, and they are usually a bit cheaper then real M14's made by H&R or others for the .gov. I've seen them go for $11k-$14k for one that was new in the factory box. If you get the s/n, you can call springfield, they will give you the date it was made, the date it was sold, and the date it shipped from them. You have to ask for the person in the historical or something or other, the first person you talk to is on a computer, and these records were never updated to the computer. So they have to transfer you to someone with the books on it. For example, when I called about the first one I had gone over, I asked for the date the rifle was made, the lady on the phone told me it was May of 1987. I told her that was not good, was she sure? She said that is what she had. I explained to her I needed the date the rifle was made, as it made the difference between a $11k weapon and one that was a jail term. She said hold on, let me get you someone who has the hard copies of the books. That lady was able to tell me that it was made on Jan 15th of 86, sold in March of 87, and shipped in May.

Good luck, they are nice weapons if you can get one for a good price.

Oh, and ask the seller to see a copy of the form for it, that will tell you if springfield made it or not, some of them were converted after the fact, I've seem some perals out there as well, not that there is anything wrong with them, but I'd rather a factory made rifle then a conversion, just my thoughts on it.
