Where would one find the locaiton of the serial number on an MP40?

Just had one arrive in shop.

There are multiple numbers on various parts of the Submachinegun.

However, none of the numbers match the serial number listed onthe form 4.

any guidance would beappreciaited.

If I recall, for an Erb or Wilson tube gun, it is on the rear of the receiver tube.  If it's a registered "bring-back", it's the number on the endcap, below the "MP40 bnz. 42" type info.

The serial # on an original MP-40 will be on the front, left side of the receiver.............

many were erroneously registered with the serial on the lower (below the manufacturers code) on the endcap.........which may/may not be the serial # on the receiver its self......

Yep.

Registered during the 68 amnesty with its serial # as the
waffenmant #, the gun was bought in mid 80's and ATF corrected the
paper work at that time to 2e.

Found it.

It is a tube gun and you had to dissassemble the weapon to expose the serial number.
