I was shooting my new 7.5" build today. When I got home and started to clean it I noticed some brownish red on the end of the bolt in front of the gass rings. It almost looked like rust. But I inspected the bolt when I got it and it wasn't there. It's hard. It's also on the flash hider and barrel. I was shooting Federal American Eagle 55 gr. Any ideas?

Look at the rounds. Mine has the same thing. I believe it is a coating around the primer.

Thanks. I don't know if it's something to do with the shorter barrel but I've fired 1000,s of AE through my other AR's and never saw this before.

Funny you say that.

It is more noticeable on my 10.5 than my 16"

It prolly burns off in the 16 better than a 10.5
