I'm thinking about getting a Model 1 Sales pistol upper for my SBR. It would be the one with the chrome lined barrel(1/9, 7.5in). My reasoning behind this would be that I could shoot 55gr bullets(or lighter) and have them expand at shorter ranges. Does anyone have an opinion on this idea or have any experience with Model 1 Sales? I wonder what the max effective range of a setup like this would be? Not that I intend to shoot longer ranges with it or anything. Here's the upper: model 1 sales pistol upper |

I would not think that you would have very good results shooting anything less then a 55gr through a 7.5 . My brother has had very good luck with his 10.5 from model 1 so I would not worry about their quality. Be warned.... a 7.5 will be extremely loud. hearing protection for everyone in the area is an absolute must. I Miss typed!!!!! I meant to say that I would not shoot anything much heavier then a 55gr. Sorry |
| The problem is, is that I can get this model 1 sales (1/9) upper for $470 complete. The cheapest 7.5 upper with a 1/7 I could find was the CMMG and that was $676($200 more). I would like to get a 7.5 upper with a 1/7 twist. Does anyone know of any quality upper like this that could be had for around $500? |

I had a 7.5" pistol in 1x9. It shot mediocre groups with 55gr projectiles. It shot great with Hornady 40gr projectiles but they are 2.5x the price of 55gr surplus and it takes more powder. I'd suggest a barrel in 1x7 like said before. Unless there isn't one around for a reasonable price. The 1x9 was still fun tho...POW--->FIRE--->hahaha |

ShootToKill: Go ahead and get the Model1 7.5" upper. I have one with the 1:9 twist and mine shoots 1 to 1.5moa on a bench rest using 55gr. ammo. It will even knock down 3/4" thick 10" dia. steel plates at 100 yards if using 75 gr. ammo. Maybe I am just lucky but mine DOES NOT KEYHOLE with ANY rounds. If saving $200 is important then buy it with confidence. I got mine from Model1 six years ago because that is all that I could afford at the time. If I were to do it over again I would go with Noveske, but then again I now have more scratch to spend on guns. If you do go with a 7.5" upper then a Noveske KX3 flash hider is a must. It will sound quieter to the shooter than a 16" with any flash hider because the KX3 throws the concussive blast forward. People standing next to you with thank you as well. MadDog |
