| Whats good people, i was wondering about the legality of the overall barrel length of an ar-15. I was wondering if you get a permanent suppressor put on a barrel and it totals 16 inches, is it considered a SBR or is it a legal 16 inch barrel that i would not need to get that rifle SBRed? Any reply is greatly appreciated. I searched and couldnt find a definate answer. Thanks again |
The only thing I would add to what packing said is that the total length has to be in excess of 16". And like he said the muzzle break would have to be made permanent. |
| If your talking about a sound suppressor and not a flash suppressor you might want to re-think it. While I'm sure its been done, it sounds like a good way to ruin an NFA toy. Pay the extra $200 and SBR the rifle if your state allows. Like you asked, maintenance will be one huge pain in the ass, whether you can disassemble the can or not. If the can is sealed its gonna be one cast-iron mother to dunk an entire upper receiver in cleaning solution. |

G-Man Weaponry out of Georgia has made a business out of permanently attaching suppressors (silencers) to 10.5" and 11.5" barrels keeping your rifle a title1 firearm. He sells complete uppers or you can send him your suppressor and barrel and he will do the work. He blind pins the suppressors so they can be taken off for repairs but it is very dificult, time consuming and costs more than the tax stamp to SBR in the first place. He sells mainly to states that do not allow SBR's but do allow suppressors and the customer wants the upper to stay at 16". You will have a problem with routine cleaning your barrel because the suppressor will always collect solvents. MadDog
