Anyone know if semi auto barrels will work in full auto guns? Standard length 9mm. I have a spare turned down converted SMG barrel for semi use. Will it still work in my FA Carbine? UZI Talk members not replying over there. Thanks, Hal |
| Depends on your host FA Uzi, but it probably will not fit. IMI/Action Arms etc. changed the outer dimensions of the barrel so that FA and semi barrels were not interchangable. I can't recall the details -- one can be turned on a lathe down to fit the other, but it doesn't work both ways. But FA Uzi barrels are cheaper than AR barrels, so just buy the one you need. |

The Host is a Full Auto Vector UZI full size. I have a spare barrel that has been turned down for a semi conversion. Even though it's been turned down, it still fits tight in the Full Auto host. I just need to know if it's safe to shoot, since it has no secondary trunion ring for support. Hal |
| A Vector full size should have 1) a full auto feed ramp (meaning no restrictor ring), and 2) a full auto barrel trunnion (meaning larger barrel journal hole). The semi-auto UZI barrel will "drop into" your factory SMG, but will not be properly located in the receiver due to it's journal being too small for the SMG barrel trunnion. In fact, that is how the SMG barrels are modified to fit semi's; the barrel journal is turned down to fit the semi's barrel trunnion and the chamber end is turned down to clear the restrictor ring. |

Thanks Gentlemen, Vector started installing semi feed ramps in the later Full Auto versions they produced for better reliability with all types of ammo. Indeed it functions flawlessly. Mine has a factory installed semi ramp. And of course No restrictor ring. The barrel in question will be offed for a true SMG barrel. Thanks for the link to OO, they were the cheapest I found as well. Even though the picture they have on the website is not an UZI barrel. They seem to be drying up fast. Again thank you everyone for such speedy help. I think I have it figured out now. Cheers, Hal |
