what would be cheaper...

1. Buy a 40mm DD, Form 4 and wait

or

2. Buy title 1 receiver, Form 1, wait for approval and then buy barrel.

or

3.  Register my Spikes 37mm receiver - but i do have strengthening and durability concerns.  personally, i'd rather have a true 40mm than a converted 37m.

thanks for opinions/ideas.

I asked myself the same question. I ended up just getting a 203

I'd just buy an M203 and wait on the Form 4, keep it simple.

An SBR is cheap and inexpensive, so when you destroy its resale value with your maker engraving, it's not the end of the world.

An M203, however,  is a very expensive undertaking, even if starting from a stripped Title I receiver.  Receiver, barrel and parts, you're looking at $2000 at a minimum.  M203s are already niche market, but a Form 1'ed M203 will have little resale value unless you're willing to sell at a substantial loss.

A factory M203 will cost more, but will retain its value if not appreciate, especially a Colt unit.
