Just got an email from my mom who lives down in NC:
"Hi Hon! We just cleaned out 17 years of junk in the backyard. Found an old artillery shell. I called a guy to come pick it up. He said it was probably from the Civil War. Pretty cool!". Yes, mom...pretty cool...thanks for giving it away to a stranger... Seriously though, I haven't talked to her about the details yet, but assuming it was indeed from the Civil War, how much can you get for one of those things? If it's any more than $1000, please don't even tell me. |

Ok - nevermind - just called her and got the story straight...
Yes, they were cleaning up their yard the other day, but one of their neighbors found the shell in their own yard, not my parents'...I'm not nearly as disappointed as I was 10 minutes ago. I need to coach my mom on email clarity. |

Call me crazy but I wouldn't want to be within 100 feet of that thing. I saw a news story about a guy who used to "restore" civil war cannon balls. He would take an angle grinder to them and shine them back up then refinish them. Only problem was he did this on a live cannonball with explosives in it. Blew him up. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,353998,00.html |
