| I am going to order one of these 2 adapters from Randy Shivak. Anyone here have experience with one or both of them? I know that the 9 shot is rifled and the 18 isn't. Just looking for some first hand experience before I drop the money. Thanks |

I don't know if Randy does rifled adapters. The rifled ones were done by Brain Faucci.
I have one of Brian's. I used to fire it a lot, and the rear plate cracked. I wrote him, and he sent me a new one for free. The adapter is well made, and works very well. I have heard of the non-rifled ones going "out of round" after heavy use. Just an FYI, if you are going to drop that kind of cash, I'd go with the steel, rifled barrels. The non-rifled ones are just aluminum, with no steel liners. GROG Edited to add–– I did check Randy's site, and his smaller adapter does have rifled barrels. Up to you if you want to try them. They look cool enough, but for me, I personally prefer things made by Faucci. I believe he sells them through Autoweapons.com here: http://www.autoweapons.com/products/destructivedevices.html GROG |
| Randy's 9 shot model is indeed rifled. The one I had had some spec issues. If you get one and use it, I would recommend not shooting anything over CB caps in it. I was using full house .22 LR loads and it fucked my launcher up. Peened over the barrel latch and locked the whole launcher up. I couldn't even get the round out until I took it home and dismantled the launcher. To Randy's credit he gave me a full refund and even replaced my barrel latch. |

Wow Jimmy, do you have any photos of the damage?
I bought a 37mm M203 barrel from Randy about 8 years ago. The inside machining down the barrel was horrible. It literally had grooves inside, all the way down the inside. Like someone used a boring bar that was not locked in tight to bore it. I probably should have complained to him about it, but usually just fix things myself if something is wrong. I know a little evil lady that gets pretty heated when discussing some of Randy's items... I picked up some of his 79 receiver parts he was selling a few years back, and some of those holes were so out of spec, they had to be welded over and re-drilled. I mean holes that were drilled out of the frame, holes that were out of round, and some really poor machining. Credit to Destiny, she turned a couple pieces of his whatnot into a jewel. The 203 I bought from Randy was pretty nice, and is the same one featured in the SAR article about grenade launchers, however I had some pretty major barrel fitting problems that had to be solved with a dremel and sanding block and a lot of elbow grease. It was so tight when I bought it, it, for all practical purposes, didn't fit. I had to do a lot of work, then had to beat on it to get it closed, and then opened again. Works fine now, but it was not a simple "slide the barrel on" deal. The barrel was brand new from Clyde Armory, Colt. So... I've had a few issues with all of the items I bought through Randy, but they were correctable with some work. GROG |

The barrel latch was mushroomed over where it indexes to the barrel. Because it was mushroomed over, it would not disengage the barrel and therefore required disaasembly to correct. I've had bad luck with stuff from Randy. Even my XM922, 2 of the 9 barrels were so out of spec I could not get rounds into the barrels. Primers never ever fit tightly into the primer pocket, either. But like I said, I got a full and complete refund, no questions asked. I got taken bad on the "80%" 79 receivers. The one I got was so far out of spec that even you know who couldn't get it right. I ended up taking a bath on that whole deal. The "80%" 79 receiver was the straw that broke the camel's back for me with Randy's stuff. I'll never buy another thing from him again. It's nothing personal, and Randy is a hell of a nice guy, I've just been burned by his products almost every time. My first 203 is a Shivak, and I have to say, that's the only thing I have that ever came from him that I had no problems with. Mine really is a nice unit. Guess I got lucky there. Mine's serial # 06x, curious what range your serial # is. Perhaps one of the real early ones? I know you got yours before I got mine. I remember your SAR article. Back before LMT blew open the 40mm market (And I'm damn glad they did) and there were a very small few of us involved in 40mm stuff. :-D |

102GLF was mine. Same one as is in SAR.
I got one of the 80% too. Only problem was, Randy failed to mention they were "cut" pieces. Really Miffed me pretty good. I work on quite a few 80% things, but never had anyone sell me the 80% in pieces... I thought it was a pretty dirty thing to do... Des had WAY more than 20% of work to do to mine. I felt very bad about it. I got very lucky though, and she got mine running. She had to reweld most of the work Randy did on them though. I remember one spring hole that the whole side was open on. Mushrooming a latch is a pretty big failure... The Faucci adapter I got was very nice, in fit and finish. Other than the one incident, never had a problem with it. GROG |
| i've been eye balling some of the 22rd adapters, if i get one of the 18rd ones that isn't threaded or any for that matter do the rounds hit the barrel on the way out? i was also looking at the one Des had on GB for the 12ga... if i fire bird shot out of it will i mess up my barrel? i have a 9.5 i got from Grog in his parts kit and a NIB 12in one |
