| Randy Shivak is selling M79 recievers that are "virgins", (never assembled as an operational M79). According to him the recievers may be transferred just as any other title 1 firearm without the paperwork headache (at least as I understand it). I will be turning 18 in a few weeks and I am wondering whether I can buy the reciever, file the paperwork and wait for it to go through, and buy the parts and put it together when I get the paperwork back. |

You need to be 21 to receive a NFA item (form 4). You have to be 18 to make a NFA item (form 1). If the receiver doesn't need to come to you a on form 4 then you can buy the receiver and file a form 1 then once it gets approved you make your DD. If you do need to use a form 4 then you'll have to convince the parents to make trust and place you as the beneficiary and have their trust hold own the item. |

Randy's M70 receivers transfer as Title 1 (non-NFA) firearms because they do not come with barrels, and both 37mm and 40mm barrels are available for them. Once you have the receiver, you can build it up as a 37mm and it remains a Title 1 firearm, with no additional paperwork required. However, if you want to install a 40mm barrel, you need to file a Form 1 and get the approved copy back from BATFE before acquiring said 40mm barrel. |

JPratt has sure started something! I for one applaud him! I wish I would have known what he knows at his age! He has broken ground for a lot of you younger guys. But at the same time, I definately wasn't mature enough at that age to own such items. I probably would have gotten myself into trouble. |
