I seem to recall that included in the list of DDs are grenades and pipe bombs.  By that same logic is each round of explosive 40mm registered?

That's what I've heard.

Edit: I almost answered your question with the same post count.  Weird.

Yes, each live round requires a $200 stamp.

isn't a DD a $5 tax stamp?

No Destructive Devices are $200 only AOWs are $5.

There is a small amount of explosive per weight allowed before an item becomes regulated.

Also there are regulations regarding proper explosive transport and storage that must be followed.

only if you use explosive shells.

thats why most people who own DD's stick to practice ammo, buck shot loads, smoke, solid projectiles etc.

Im not even sure anyone who makes oh say 40mm HE would sell to a us civilans anyway even if we had all paperwork and other stuff. atleast not without ordering in bulk and even then Im not sure they would.

Exactly. Even civilians with money + pretty damned good connections can't get it. Can you say "product liability"?

Ha and some of my shooting budies complain about my barrett.
With 40mm pratice costing from $7 to $10 I wonder how much each time that goes off.  BTW where do I get one?

James handloads his own ammo. I fergit the exact powder spec per case, but it is measured in pounds.

If ya really want a Big Boy's Toy, Dangerous Bob Bigando has a live 3-inch Naval Gun for sale for $28k. (Hey, that's less than an M60!) And it's a two-passenger, so you can ride it with a friend.

Again, it's a handloading situation -- he uses four pounds of powder behind a 76mm projectile. His ad has a vid of it being fired. www.sturmgewehr.com/webBBS/nfa4sale.cgi?read=74321

Just be aware that you'll prolly have to do some fast talking when you show up at the shooting range with this one.
