I just received my Rugged Surge 7.62 and ran into an issue with my 300BO and 5.56 uppers. I have an SLR adjustable gas block in both uppers that are set to lock the bolt back with no can on the gun. The 300 BO ran just fine with my Griffin Optimus but with the Surge I get a random issue where the next round is chambered but the trigger does not reset. I can only replicate it on the 5.56 if I do a crazy fast shouldered bumpfire with the Geissele SD3G trigger, which I can dump half a mag before the next round chambers but trigger does not reset.

Both uppers were fired extensively unsuppressed with no issues and the trigger spring is installed correctly. I am using a Spike's T2 buffer. I am thinking that it has to do with the backpressure from the suppressor? could the bold be cycling too fast to reset trigger? Also I cannot bumpfire the 5.56 upper on fully shouldered without the Surge installed. I could dial down the gas block but they are already both set to 1 click higher than the minimum to get bolt to lock back unsuppressed. Do I need to get a heavier buffer?

300BO is 9" pistol length gas tube and 5.56 is 11.5" carbine if that helps.

Thank you in advance for your help on this.

Have you looked to see how dirty the trigger is?
There might be enough gunk in there from blowback that it is starting to cause those issues.

Lower was cleaned after prior range session

This was happening to me. I believe bolt bounce was the issue. Heavier buffer and the upgraded 4lb spring for the SD3G seemed to be the answer. Your trigger is actually bump firing and riding the bolt home.

If it is bolt bounce it probably cause by an over gassed condition, easily remedied since you have an SLR adjustable block installed already.

Thank you for your responses.

I have a Spike's T2 in it now so should I get an H3 or are you using something different dhd1?

I can turn down the gas but I had it set for the minimum setting that the bolt would still lock back unsuppressed so I will give up that ability if I turn it down further so hopefully the heavier buffer will fix it.

Try adding the heavier spring for the Giessele first before you get an H3. If you email customer service, they'll send you one

Before changing anything on the lower, I suggest turning down the gas to confirm that excess gas - and so excess carrier cyclic rate/bolt bounce - is causing the trouble.

Now do that with the suppressor on and record how many clicks from your unsuppressed setting.

Isn't the ST-T2 buffer more prone to bolt bounce than the standard block weighted buffers?  Perhaps tune the gas block to a H1 or H2.

I haven't had trigger issues but have had some fail to lock back with the T2.   I figured it had to with do with the movement of powder vs block weight in the buffer.

All my research I did on the T2 in the past is it was notorious for bolt bounce..... You are much better off with an H2

Sounds like I need to order an H2 and give it a shot. Thanks for all the input guys!

As others have said, try dialing down the gas before you order anything.

Since I could not turn down the SLR gas block any further because it would not allow the bolt to lock back unsuppressed, I ordered a BCM H2 buffer. Had it at the range today and all the problems were solved so it appears bolt bounce was the issue as I couldn't replicate the issue with the H2 installed

Thank you everyone for your input and help with this.
