Can I use a 9mm can or have to get a 45can?

9mm and even some .22 cans are good

9 is fine.  9>5.7

Gemtech also has a purpose built can for that host if you can find one.

If you're looking for a small can, the Dead Air Mask is 5.7 rated.

I think BW will tell you "rated for" doesn't mean "sounds good"

I've thought long and hard (that's what she said) about a suppressed FN5.7. But sourcing a threaded barrel for less than crazy money hasn't been fun. Suggestions?

Tornado Technologies will extend and thread your barrel for $175..... which is more economical than buying a EFK or Jarvis replacement barrel ($300-400+).

This is normally what we recommend, as the threaded ones are hard to source and expensive.

IME on rifles, a 556K can is best for 5.7.  For pistols, they are never going to be incredibly quiet, so I prefer a rimfire can for size, but 9mm cans work as well.

Fun fact, the factory FN P90 cans are about 8" long and have a HUGE bore diameter.

Obviously you are NOT going to put a .223 can on a Five seveN pistol. Way too heavy and large!

Truth is I love the Five seveN. It is my daily carry and I have a few of them. It is absolutely awful to shoot suppressed. Sound reduction is not great with any can I have tried (9mm and 22lr). Worst of all, it spits so much blowback at you it is a mess and even hurts at times. Save yourself a lot of money and DON'T suppress it. You will be disappointed.

I have a PS90 SBR as well. I run a 9mm can on it from time to time. it works fine, but the whole point of the PS90 SBR is to make it a small PDW. Putting a 7" can on it, really defeats the purpose. I just don't bother to suppress 5.7.
