| Anyone have a homemade can that works as well as a commercial can. Is it possible to manufacture a homemade suppressor that is as quiet as the top brands in the market? |
| With the major form 1 parts makers in the business now it is definitely easy to copy a commercial suppressor's performance. The trade offs are baffle material for the exotic type of stuff like stellite or inconel, and the suppressor mounts (direct thread, YHM, and Griffin taper are the most common). With form 1 times bordering form 4 times the benefit of a faster suppressor is gone. You may come out a little cheaper with a form 1. |

Any idea how this will change if the HPA passes? Specifically for home made suppressors? Assuming they'd be treated the same as 80% lowers, you ought to be able to make whatever you want. I could definitely see upgrading the internals on all mine when it goes into effect. |

Good info bigwaylon. Do you have numbers on any other cans? If you were to upgrade the internals, would you try to get stellite, stainless steel, or any other unobtanium and what companies sell upgraded baffles? All I have are what I posted. Mine vs SiCo & YHM. Same host on the same day. I'd probably just go with SS or Ti cones, maybe even radial cones. I'd just use a local machinist here that does stuff for me. There are some SOTs that will recore a can. There are also quite a few options for 80% "baffles" (often sold as "storage cups"). |

I made six at the same time. Two sets of 7", 8" and 9"...one with SS tubes and the other with Ti. Basic formed FP baffles. The Ti baffles had a couple spacers, while the SS were packed full of FPs. Considering this is about as basic as you get, you could obviously do better with some of the "storage cups" that are available, or do it yourself if you're skilled on a lathe. Here's how mine performed against a couple of my commercial cans. http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/xx151/thegreghorton/Mobile%20Uploads/6CAFCC73-1CD4-4F73-BD7E-AC01333B2C5C_zpsegins7cb.png http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/xx151/thegreghorton/Mobile%20Uploads/2A216175-CB77-4DBE-9522-A1976C3ED997_zpsydd9pjih.png (Metering results courtesy of a trip I made to visit Mike & Henry at Rugged...and Mike did think with a couple hundred rounds of ammo I could drop several more dB just by playing with the spacing of the baffles) Nice chart BW |

If the HPA goes through the ATF is going to be flooded with Form 1 refund requests. You know, for the cans that were never built. HPA could have some, or no back dated refund allowance for forms already approved. Forms not yet approved "should" be able to get a full refund. Hopefully, there are 9 Democrats who want more to be reelected in two years than they want to kiss C. Schumer's ring. |
