Yesterday I went into a local shop and spoke at length with the owner. They didn't have anything in stock as they sell out almost immediately but have quite a few inbound in various stages. I went in thinking I wanted to get a 7.62 can to use first on my in-process .300 Blackout pistol. They showed me a couple of personally owned cans, including a Sparrow .22 rimfire can. Very small and light and went great on his Ruger Mk III Lite (and I have one of those). He also said that he shoots his .22s suppressed most often and loves it. I think I agree that a .22 RF can might be a great place to start. He has some Sparrows inbound (maybe even this week) and I put my name down for one @ $475.
I'm done more research since visiting the LGS and I'm also looking hard at a Gemtech GM-22. It is aluminum vs the stainless steel Sparrow so is much lighter and is only about $300. Anyone used one or both and can offer some comparisons? I understand that the aluminum GM-22 may be harder to clean since you cannot use ultrasonic cleaners, but I doubt I'd be putting hundreds much less thousands of rounds through it each month. Ready to go now, I have the Ruger Mk III Lite and a S&W M&P 15-22 that are already threaded and could take the can. Rob User Info |

Personally, if it came down to one can, it'd be a rimfire can for me. My buddy, on the other hand, only has a 7.62 rifle suppressor because that's pretty much the only shooting he does. With the GM-22, it isn't about cleaning, it's about breaking the carbon fouling between the core and the outer tube so that you can service the can down the road. If you don't do it on a regular basis (like after each range session), it becomes very difficult to get the two apart. If it's your first can and you're deciding between the GM-22 and the Sparrow, get the Sparrow and live a more carefree life. |

I took the suppressed 10/22 up to the farm on the 4th and helped my boys 3 and 5 shoot it. .22 is seriously fun too.
