I ordered a Stag 6.8 upper not realizing that thread their barrels 1/2-36 instead of 5/8-24 like most other companies.

I had intended to use a AAC 7.62 SD on this upper for deer hunting and AAC does not thread a 51T device in 1/2-36, So in looking for a solution I found this-

http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/muzzle-devices/thread-adapters/shoulderless-thread-adapter-1-2-36-to-5-8-24-prod86837.aspx

Has anyone used a thread adapter with a can or know if it will or won't work? Any better solutions?  I know the barrel could be cut down and re-threaded but I prefer not to SBR this upper.

I've used thread adapters with no problems, but you could just get it recut with different threads and have a 51t mount pinned to bring it back to 16".

I'm not at all a fan of pinning muzzle devices, but that's not a bad option.

I'd be tempted to call up AAC and ask them - if they'd bless the thread adapter I guess that wouldn't be horrible since you'd presumably have the muzzle device semi-permanently attached anyway.  Would be nice if they had the option for an unbored muzzle device for customization, or even better a custom muzzle device service....

I never thought about 1/2x36 when I scoped out 51T muzzle devices... seems like they've got darn near everything else, including the 9/16x24LH for an FS2000!
