Just wondering for those with the ported version if they have experienced the problem removing the shroud and if anyone has tried antisieze on the threads? I'm interested in the barrel, but wanted it ported so I can shoot all the regular .22LR ammo I have.

Even the ported version isn't reliably subsonic with bulk pack.

Ports can be altered. I'm mostly concerned with the threading becoming stuck as I've seen in some reports.

They become stuck after a while.

If you want to use bulk pack, Thompson Machine is a better option.  I have both and plan on sending my Mist to Gemtech to have the ports plugged.

Yeah, I've had to send the barrel back to Gemtech once when I couldn't get the shroud off. Now I make sure to crack it open after every time I shoot it.

I took mine out today for the first time.  Shot a couple hundred rounds.  Almost 1/2 were CCI standard.  Rest were HV Federal bulk 525.  I just went out after reading this and was able to get mine off easily.  The sleeve was snugged up some, but no problem with the threads.

I'd be all over Thompson if they had a take down version for the Hogue stock.

Granted, I've only had mine a short time, but I think "breaking" the fouling after use (as in the above post) is the ticket here.
You don't even have to disassemble/clean it-- just don't let it get stuck.

Also-- I've found the "Nitro Bore solvent" products (e.g., Hoppe's) work really well on suppressors-- anybody else use this?

I have both as well (pics posted in a recent thread), and find that the Gemtech is noticeably quieter (probably due to
significantly greater volume).

They have a takedown version.

The Gemtech is a sleeker and slightly quieter design.  My beef with it is that the ports do not reliably slow down bulk pack or CCI Minimag to subsonic levels.  Porting should work everytime, otherwise there is no point imo.  I exclusively use my Mist with subsonic ammo.

As they come from the factory, the Mist's ports really only serve to increase fowling.

increase port size?
That's a solution.  I'd prefer not to drill into my barrel, especially one I've waited on for 6 months.  Plugging the ports and using subsonic is the best for my purposes with the Mist.

I don't think the Mist is a bad product but OP stated he wants to use standard Velocity ammo and was worried about the sleeve getting stuck.  The Thompson Machine is better suited for those two criteria.  The Mist has some serious deficiencies.

Then you run into cycling issues with standard velocity/match ammo.

Porting is difficult to do with the wide range of 22 ammo available.  Too much and the gun won't run or the velocity is way down.  Too little and the gun still runs but it goes supersonic.  It's an unfortunate reality of dealing with the 22lr.

To answer the OP's question, I've got a ported model.  I coat the stack and threads in Fireclean before shooting it.  After a mag or two, I break loose the tube. I've never gotten it stuck.
