First let me say this will be my first NFA item. I would like to suppress 9mm pistol and would build a 300BLK SBR in the future.
Any reason not to get one? I see its not the best in sound reduction but its lightweight, not the shortest but relatively short, easy to take down and clean, and not a bad price. I'm not against other options even if they cost more. Thanks for any input, Jeff |

OP, got ur IM. Sorry about that....was busy buying a new SIG MPX to put the GM-9 on.
Here's the low down - It disassembles easy, cleans easily, is light as heck, and uses all Multimount pistons and mounts. It's a few decibels louder than the Octane, but it's not as long or heavy. Side by side on my G19, I can't tell the difference between the two. If you want any pics, or other info, lemme know and I'll get it to you. In case anyone is wondering, the GM-9 does indeed fit in the hand guards of the Sig MPX....

My dealer actually had a 9mm Osprey with the 13.5 threads that I mounted on my 19 and I really liked it but the Gemtech clears my X300, cheaper, and is user serviceable. Thanks |

An SOT and I went out and shot one. We were curious how it performed against the Tundra (which is no longer offered). Its a 1.25" can, like the Tundra, but shorter. All 3 of us shot it, and had the others listen when we shot it against the Tundra and my Tirant9. We were all disappointed with the GM-9, which sucked because we all wanted to like it. It was just noticeably louder than the Tundra. No real surprise because it is shorter, and Gemtech's paperwork even says its louder than the Tundra. We were just curious why they would phase out a can thats quieter for a can thats louder. I can understand if folks wanted a lighter/shorter can to go with the GM-9 if suppression wasn't their priority, but to get rid of the quieter option doesn't make sense. We shot it on G19's with AE147gr ammo, as well as some 147gr hand loads. I like Gemtech, have 2 of their cans, with another pending, but the direction they are going with the GM series doesn't make sense to me. |

Also the Gemtech is shorter, lighter, smaller diameter, and cheaper. AAC say 35-38db with the Tirant Gemtech has the GM9 at 27-30db |

OP,
Don't worry too much about chasing the dB. I have four different 9mm cans and each has its pro's and con's. Sound suppression doesn't need to be #1 consideration. Also, the human ear is a very subjective "meter" in my opinion; you may find the GM9 to be very quiet. Don't sweat it. |

The move towards shorter and lighter means most companies seem to be sacrificing decibels. |

I'd be happy if it made my G19 hearing safe while wet and I'd shoot it in the back yard. I'd probably shoot it dry at the range and still have ears on if others are shooting. |

I absolutely do not care about DB numbers either. I don't have a meter, care about meters, or care about telling people my can is 2.5db quieter than theirs. I care about how it sounds to my ear as I or others shoot it. The GM-9 was louder than the Tundra, to myself and 2 others who have shot a lot of cans. Granted this was one day, one set of conditions, etc. Keep in mind it was also a new can, and we only put 50rds through it. But the DB numbers were interesting, as from their own literature, the GM-9 should be louder...and we observed that it was. |

I have a GM9 and found I have to check for tightness every magazine as it seems to loosen up pretty quickly, no matter how hard I crank it on.
I don't have any other 9mm cans (or pistols) to compare it to, but I'd still wear muffs when shooting it. I found dis-assembly pretty easy. |

Midway has the WWB listed at 990fps but one of the reviewers said they are loud even when suppressed. I wonder how much better it'd sound with Freedoms hush 147 or 165g which are going much slower. Some other info on the GM-9. I emailed Gemtech about shooting 357mag or 30carbine through this suppressor and they say its a no go due to the higher pressures of those cartridges. No surprise here. They also said 22mag or 17hmr would be fine to use with the GM-9. Again no surprise. |
