On my first build and planning my design for future upgrades. Have yet to buy a muzzle device because I haven't made up my mind on one yet. Surefire makes suppressors, and compensators that accept a suppressor(silencer)...ok side question. What do I call a silencer. I feel like suppressor is the correct term right? That also applies to a muzzle device though right? like just a recoil compensator? Would love to know the correct lingo there. Sorry I digress...so surefire...they make muzzle devices that you just slap a ....silencer on too. Thoughts on those? Thoughts on silencers in general. Is this an improvement other than noise reduction and looks? Is it a down grade on accuracy or other aspects? lots of red tape owning one I gather. That's gota be a draw back. Sorry for the book. Thanks as always everyone!

Maxim called them silencers so have at it.
Accuracy can be positively or negatively affected. You'll probably also deal with point of impact shift.

The amount of red tape is relative to what you're used to I suppose.

Pros are sound and signature reduction and reduced recoil as well as cool points
Negatives are weight, balance, price, and a dirtier host

What guns do you want to suppress and what are yours goals and budget?

Surefire is on the top end of the price spectrum

ETA: your first sentence is weird

Not trying to be a dick, but your post is full of really basic fundamental questions that are either answered in the stickies or answered like five times a day in the other threads in this forum. I suggest that you spend a few days reading and you will understand the answers to most of your questions. It appears that you need a basic education in how silencers work, how they can be legally acquired, what options there are, how quick detach and other mounting systems work, etc. you will learn a lot by just checking this forum for a few days and reading all the stickies here and in the other class 3 subforms.

You can call the silencers, suppressors or cans. They really don't silence a gun though as you see in the movies they just suppress the sound to make it quieter.

There are two differnt forms of attachment.
1 is direct thread where the suppressor will thread directly to your barrel. I use direct thread on my suppressors because I have a specific suppressor for each gun I own. Another attachment style is the quick attack which uses a mounted muzzle device to mount on. There are are a few different styles of ways the cans mount up. And you can usually choose from different tiles of muzzle devices such as a compensator or break.

I would do some research there are tons of good companies that make cans. Surefire is not the best or the worst but they are pricey. Personally I would start with a .22 can because they are just awesome. They don't cost much relatively and they are just fun to shoot.

The "red tape" does not seem bad to me.
Make a trust. (Prob the hardest part because it is new to you but once you do it you can use it for multiple suppressors or SBRs.)
Turn in form 4 (my dealer does it for me) and it involves only basic questions.
Turn in a $200.00 check for tax (my dealer sends the payment in I just pay him $200.00 directly to him)
Wait 4-6 months.
Once approved go to dealer sign once and walk out with suppressor.
